Texas Defeats Oklahoma for First WCWS Win in History

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – The Texas Longhorns achieved a historic moment on May 31, 2025, defeating the Oklahoma Sooners 4-2 in the Women’s College World Series (WCWS). This marked the first time Texas has won against Oklahoma in the WCWS, ending a streak of seven losses.
Pitcher Teagan Kavan led the way for the Longhorns with a complete-game performance. Kavan struck out eight batters and allowed only two runs, one of which was earned, while scattering seven hits throughout the game.
Texas took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Mia Scott stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error, allowing Kayden Henry to steal home. A sacrifice fly by R. Atwood brought Scott home shortly after.
In the second inning, the Sooners equalized the score at 2-2 thanks to an RBI single from Abigale Dayton, driving in Cydney Sanders. However, the Longhorns quickly regained the advantage in the fifth when Kayden Henry hit a home run to right field.
Joley Mitchell followed suit in the sixth inning, hitting another homer to extend Texas’s lead to 4-2. Kavan dominated in the final inning, striking out the last two batters to secure the victory.
“It feels incredible to finally win against them at this stage,” Kavan said emotionally after the game, dedicating her performance to her late grandmother, who loved watching her play.
The Longhorns now advance to the national semifinals, where they will face either Tennessee, Texas Tech, or UCLA on Monday.
