Texas Defensive Lineman Alfred Collins Impresses Ahead of NFL Draft

INDIANAPOLIS, IN, USA — Texas defensive lineman Alfred Collins has emerged as a promising prospect for the upcoming NFL Draft, showcasing his skills at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine.
A former five-star recruit from Cedar Creek High School in Bastrop, Texas, Collins has made headlines throughout his college career with impressive performances for the Longhorns. Coming off a strong 2024 season, he recorded 27 total stops and earned Second-Team All-American honors while being named First-Team All-SEC in his first season as a full-time starter.
Positioned primarily as a nose tackle, Collins displayed versatility, aligning over the A-Gap 146 times and the B-Gap 299 times. Texas defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski often relied on him to occupy critical gaps, demonstrating Collins’ ability to adapt within different defensive schemes. He proved himself to be a strong run defender, capable of withstanding double-teams and mitigating various offensive blocking techniques.
Despite his robust run defense, analysts highlight concerns regarding Collins’ pass-rushing capabilities. While he shows determination, he has struggled to string together moves and lacks some athletic traits that could enhance his effectiveness as a pass rusher. His power moves are characterized as modest, suggesting that he has room for improvement in this area.
Collins remained focused on bettering his skills as he prepares for the NFL. “I’m constantly learning how to play football at a high level,” he said. Scouts believe that with further training, he could develop into a reliable every-down player.
Given his strong foundation and potential upside, Collins is projected as a quality day-two draft asset. His performance in the combine and pre-draft visits will be crucial as teams finalize their strategies ahead of the draft.
