KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Texas judge has issued a temporary protective order for Tia Jones, the woman who accused Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy of assaulting her last week. The order was confirmed by Jones’s attorneys in a statement to The Associated Press on Wednesday.

Jones’s legal representatives stated that she is “fully cooperating with law enforcement as they continue to actively investigate the violence that occurred.” Angelica Cogliano, one of Jones’s attorneys, noted, “Ms. Jones has chosen to use her voice to speak up for herself. In doing so, she looks forward to the facts and circumstances of that night coming to light through the formal legal process.”

Worthy was arrested on Friday night in Georgetown, Texas, on a charge of assault on a family or household member, specifically involving allegations of choking. He was released the following day after the Williamson County District Attorney Shawn Dick announced that the office would not pursue charges, having interviewed several witnesses.

According to Worthy’s attorneys, Chip Lewis and Sam Bassett, their client is innocent of the allegations. They claimed that the accusation was made by a woman who had been living in Worthy’s home and had been asked to leave multiple times after what they described as “discovery of her infidelity.”

The attorneys further asserted that Jones had refused to vacate the residence and had attempted extortion prior to making the accusations against Worthy. They provided details stating that Jones had allegedly caused damage to the property, scratched Worthy’s face, and pulled out his hair, claiming to have photographic evidence of these incidents. Worthy reportedly informed law enforcement during the incident that he did not wish to press charges against Jones.

The Kansas City Chiefs acknowledged the situation and stated they were in the process of gathering information regarding the allegations against their player. Worthy was selected by the Chiefs with the 28th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft after recording the fastest 40-yard dash at the NFL combine. Last season, he had 59 receptions for 638 yards and six touchdowns, emerging as a pivotal player for the team as they aimed for a third consecutive Super Bowl title.

In a notable performance earlier in the season, Worthy caught eight passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns in the Super Bowl, despite the Chiefs’ 40-22 loss. The events surrounding the assault allegations have raised significant interest amid the ongoing investigations.
