Vic Schaefer Holly Schaefer Wedding Anniversary

HOUSTON, Texas — Texas Longhorns women’s basketball head coach Vic Schaefer celebrated his 30th wedding anniversary with his wife, Holly Schaefer, in October 2023 at the same church where they exchanged vows in 1993. The couple has built a life together in Texas, where Vic’s coaching career has thrived.

Holly Schaefer, a former collegiate player at Arkansas State, transitioned into coaching and has also served as an assistant at the University of Texas at Arlington. Her experience in basketball offers unique insights into the sport, which has significantly influenced Vic’s career.

“Having someone who understands the challenges of coaching is invaluable,” Vic said in a recent interview. “Holly has always been my rock, especially through the demanding nature of this profession.”

The couple’s deep Texas roots enhance their connection. Vic, who was born in Austin and raised in Houston, returned to his home state in 2020 when he was appointed to lead the Longhorns. The position brought him closer to his family, including his sister in Pearland, whom he has fond memories with from their childhood.

Despite his $2.3 million annual salary and a contract extended through 2029-2030, Vic makes time away from basketball for personal interests, such as hunting and fishing. He notably cleaned over 350 fish during a three-week period last summer.

“I need those moments to recharge,” Vic explained, acknowledging the pressure of coaching at a high level. Holly’s steady support has been a cornerstone of his success, particularly as the team advanced to three Elite Eight appearances and clinched an SEC title during the 2024-2025 season.
