ATHENS, Georgia — The Texas Longhorns and Georgia Bulldogs are set to clash in a much-anticipated SEC matchup on Saturday at Sanford Stadium, marking just the eighth game between these two storied programs.

Both teams boast impressive records this season, with Texas entering the game ranked No. 10 after a successful rally to regain its spot in the College Football Playoff race. Texas, following a bye week, aims to avenge two previous losses to Georgia last year, including a dramatic SEC Championship game.

The Longhorns have shown resilience this season despite facing challenges. They suffered two losses, one to Georgia and the other in an overtime defeat during the SEC Championship. Under head coach Steve Sarkisian, the team has had a solid record after bye weeks, winning both games last season when coming off a break.

Texas enjoyed a strong start to the 2025 season, including significant victories over ranked opponents. However, a loss to the Florida Gators earlier this season briefly knocked Texas out of the AP Top 25 rankings.

Georgia, ranked No. 5, comes into the game with an 8-1 record, with their only loss to Alabama earlier in the season. They have a solid home-field advantage, having not lost a conference game at Davis Wade Stadium for over three years. Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart acknowledged the challenge of playing in front of a boisterous crowd.

“Noise is noise,” Smart said. “It’s hard to play in the SEC on the road. Every SEC venue poses its own set of challenges.”

As both teams prepare to face off under the lights, Texas looks to leverage their considerable rest advantage coming off a bye week, while Georgia aims to maintain their edge with a victory at home. This matchup is crucial in the race for College Football Playoff positions.
