Texas Tech Quarterback Day-to-Day After Injury in Kansas Game

LUBBOCK, Texas — Texas Tech quarterback Tyler Morton is considered day-to-day following a right leg injury he sustained during Saturday’s game against Kansas. The injury occurred during a sack in the second quarter, during which Morton had already helped his team to an 18-0 lead.
Morton, a senior and the third-leading passer in the Big 12, has faced injuries multiple times this season. This was his third exit from a game this year, including a previous leg injury he suffered in a match against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire praised Morton’s toughness on Monday, stating, ‘That dude’s the toughest kid I’ve ever coached.’
In the game against Kansas, Morton finished with 91 passing yards and a touchdown on 7-of-12 passing before being sidelined. Although he was able to walk off the field, he spent the second half in the locker room and watched from the sidelines in street clothes. The Red Raiders won the contest decisively, finishing with a score of 42-17.
Morton has started every game this season, helping the Red Raiders achieve their first 6-0 start since 2013. As of now, he has thrown for 1,501 yards, completing 68.4% of his passes, with 13 touchdowns and three interceptions. The team next faces the defending Big 12 champions this Saturday in Tempe.
McGuire mentioned that Morton feels better compared to earlier in the season, indicating a positive sign for his recovery. The Red Raiders’ backup quarterback has stepped in during previous injuries, ensuring the team remained undefeated at this point in the season.
