Thousands Set to Run the Cowtown Marathon This Weekend

FORT WORTH, Texas — Thousands of athletes are gearing up to participate in the 47th annual Cowtown Marathon this weekend, braving chilly temperatures to support a cause that benefits local children. The marathon, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, is expected to attract runners and walkers of all ages, with events spanning multiple distances.
This year marks a significant moment for the Cowtown Marathon, as it continues to support The C.A.L.F. Program (Children’s Activities for Life and Fitness), which provides critical resources like new running shoes and socks to school-age children. In 2023, the program reached over 5,000 children across 114 schools.
Participants can expect various road closures throughout Fort Worth during the event. The marathon route starts in the Cultural District, travels through the Stockyards, winds through downtown, and returns via Texas Christian University (TCU). Spectators have several prime locations along the route to cheer on participants.
The weekend’s events kick off early Saturday morning, with the 10K and 5K races slated for 7 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. respectively, followed by a kids’ 5K starting at 9 a.m. The organizers note that the early races are anticipated to conclude by 9 a.m.
In addition to the closures on Saturday, several key roads will also be impacted on Sunday, when all races commence at 7 a.m. from the Will Rogers Memorial Center. The marathon progresses through a large swath of the city, culminating around 4 p.m.
As for road closures, affected streets include W. Lancaster Avenue, N. University Drive, and Main Street, among others. The detailed course requires careful planning from both participants and drivers to navigate the changes.
For those looking to support runners, various spectator-friendly locations offer opportunities to cheer them on. Noteworthy spots include Rabbit Hole Pub, which will host a watch party starting at 6:30 a.m. Sunday, and the vibrant atmosphere of the Stockyards. In downtown Fort Worth, Sundance Square welcomes patrons, while Fairmount Park will offer waffles sponsored by Waffle House to those looking to fuel up before cheering.
Bleachers at the Will Rogers Memorial Center will also serve as ideal viewing areas for friends and family members wishing to witness the excitement as runners take off and cross the finish line.
As the community comes together for this event, the Cowtown Marathon exemplifies not only athleticism but also camaraderie and support for local initiatives impacting children’s health and fitness.
