Three Dead, Three Injured in Spotsylvania County Shooting

SPOTSYLVANIA, Va. — Three individuals lost their lives and three others sustained injuries in a shooting that unfolded Tuesday evening in Spotsylvania County, according to the local sheriff’s office. The incident occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. in the Olde Greenwich area.
Authorities arrived on the scene to find several individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. “Upon arrival, deputies found multiple subjects shot,” the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office stated in an update. “At this time, the sheriff’s office has confirmed three deceased and three victims transported to local hospitals. This is an active and fluid investigation.”
As of 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, no suspects were in custody. The sheriff’s office urged residents to avoid the area as police continued their investigation. Sheriff Roger L. Harris later confirmed the heavy police presence in the vicinity through a social media post.
Witnesses reported seeing emergency services transport several victims to Mary Washington Hospital, which is a Level 2 Trauma Center, while others were taken to nearby facilities. At least two of the injured victims are children.
Local authorities issued a shelter-in-place order for residents in the area while officials work to gather more information. Scanner reports suggested that as many as seven people were shot during the incident, but only three fatalities have been confirmed.
