Thriston Lawrence Eyes Breakthrough Performance at Masters

Augusta, Georgia – As the 2025 Masters Tournament approaches, South African golfer Thriston Lawrence expressed confidence in his ability to perform well despite recent challenges. This marks Lawrence’s debut at the prestigious tournament, which begins this week at Augusta National.
Lawrence, 28, has demonstrated potential at high-stakes events, finishing fourth in his first major championship, The Open, last summer at Royal Troon. He carded an impressive four-under 32 on the front nine, solidifying his place among the elite as he seeks his first major title.
“I haven’t been doing the best lately, but I still know that once I am in that situation I can compete,” Lawrence said. “I can control my emotions and give myself a great chance to win.”
His recent performances have included significant achievements, such as earning dual membership on the DP World Tour and PGA Tour, and he has won four times on the DP World Tour since the start of the 2022 season. His victories include the Joburg Open and several titles on home soil, showcasing his success as a dual member on both tours.
Despite a challenging start to the year in the PGA Tour with only two cuts made in eight appearances, Lawrence remains optimistic. “It feels like I am so close to winning again. It’s crazy,” he stated, emphasizing his belief in his ability to return to form at Augusta.
Lawrence’s self-described straightforward approach contrasts with many golfers who seek advice from experienced players ahead of the Masters. Instead, he relies on his own insights gained from practice rounds at Augusta’s iconic course.
“I like figuring things out myself. I practice in a different way than others,” he said. “A fresh pair of eyes is always important, but I’ve heard a lot of good pointers already.”
With the momentum from his strong summer showing in mind, Lawrence is determined not to let this opportunity slip through his fingers. “I know I can compete in a Major. Playing in the final group gave me a lot of confidence,” he noted.
In addition to Lawrence, this year’s Masters field includes several first-time participants, such as Rasmus and Nicolai Højgaard, making history as the first twins to play in the tournament, as well as PGA Tour winners Aaron Rai and Thomas Detry.
As excitement builds for the illustrious Masters Tournament, all eyes will be on Lawrence and his fellow debutants, hoping to leave their mark on Augusta National.
