Thunder Defeat Grizzlies to Take 2-0 Series Lead

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — The Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Memphis Grizzlies 118-99 on April 22, 2025, taking a 2-0 lead in their first-round playoff series.
The Thunder controlled the game from the start, beginning with a 9-0 run and holding Memphis scoreless for over three minutes. By the end of the first quarter, Oklahoma City led 32-17 without ever trailing.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder with 27 points, despite hitting only 10 of 29 shots. “We never underestimate our opponent, no matter what,” he said. “They wouldn’t be here if they weren’t a very good team.”
In addition to Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams contributed 24 points, while Chet Holmgren recorded a double-double with 20 points, 11 rebounds, and five blocks.
The Thunder’s performance was highlighted by a playoff record of 12 three-pointers in the first half. By halftime, they held a 70-52 lead.
Memphis attempted to mount a comeback, cutting OKC’s lead to single digits in the third quarter. However, the Thunder responded with a 10-0 run to push their advantage back to 90-79 entering the fourth quarter.
“The difference was that we started seriously competing in the third quarter,” said Memphis interim coach Tuomas Iisalo. “But we need that for the whole 48 minutes right from the get-go.”
Desmond Bane led the Grizzlies with 26 points, while Ja Morant added 23. Memphis struggled early, shooting only 22.2% in the first quarter.
The Grizzlies will host Game 3 at FedExForum on April 24, 2025, facing an urgent must-win situation to avoid falling into a 0-3 deficit.
