Thunder Rally Late to Defeat Timberwolves in Exciting Showdown

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — The Oklahoma City Thunder overcame a late deficit to secure a thrilling 130-123 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday night at Target Center, avenging a previous loss to Minnesota earlier this month.
In a game marked by quick scoring, the Thunder utilized a flurry of three-pointers in the fourth quarter to seize control. Veteran guard Alex Caruso led the charge, making three key shots from behind the arc as Oklahoma City outscored Minnesota 37-30 in the final period.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was the standout performer for the Thunder, scoring 37 points while contributing eight rebounds and eight assists. His efforts proved crucial as Oklahoma City improves to an impressive record this season.
“We’ve shown that we can bounce back and respond in tough situations,” Gilgeous-Alexander said postgame. “Tonight was a testament to our resilience as a team.”
For the Timberwolves, Anthony Edwards topped the scoring list with 29 points, while Naz Reid added 22, Nickeil Alexander-Walker contributed 18, and Jaden McDaniels chipped in 17. Despite the strong offensive showing, the team struggled defensively in the closing moments.
“We had our chances, but we need to close games better,” Reid stated. “We let it slip away in the fourth, and that’s something we have to work on.”
The game showcased a significant momentum shift as Minnesota initially trailed by 19 points in the second quarter but rallied to lead 63-61 at halftime, outscoring the Thunder 40-26 in the second quarter.
However, Oklahoma City regained the advantage after three quarters, leading 112-105. With under five minutes remaining, the Timberwolves briefly took a five-point lead, but Oklahoma City responded with an explosive 18-2 run, sealing their victory.
“Two back-to-backs in one week against good teams is challenging, but we need to stay focused,” Reid added as the team prepares for their upcoming rematch against the Thunder in Oklahoma City.
The Timberwolves have little time to dwell on the loss as they are scheduled for a rematch with the Thunder on Monday night, following their late-night flight. This quick turnaround could be critical for both teams as they strive for positioning in the Western Conference playoff race.
“It’s another opportunity for us to improve and show what we’re made of,” Alexander-Walker said, emphasizing the team’s commitment to growth. “We’ll break down the film and come back ready to compete.”
