OKLAHOMA CITY, April 23, 2025 — The Oklahoma City Thunder continued their impressive playoff run by defeating the Memphis Grizzlies 118-99 in Game 2 of their Western Conference first-round series on Tuesday night, taking a 2-0 lead.

After a brief moment where the Grizzlies cut the lead to single digits midway through the third quarter, Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander stepped up, scoring on consecutive possessions with a midrange jumper and a turnaround shot over 7-foot-4 center.

Despite struggling with his shooting in the series, Gilgeous-Alexander managed to score 27 points on 10-of-29 shooting. He acknowledged his off nights but credited his teammates, saying, “Because my team is really good, we’ve won two games by a decent margin. They’ve had my back these last two nights. Hopefully, I pick it up soon.”

This season, the Thunder posted the best point differential in the NBA, averaging a plus-12.9. Their two victories against Memphis have come by a combined 70 points. According to ESPN Research, this point differential is the second highest in the first two games of a playoff series, only behind the 1986 Boston Celtics.

Oklahoma City’s defense has stifled the Grizzlies, allowing them only eight fast-break points in two games. Thunder forward had a standout performance, scoring 24 points, while power forward/center added 20 points. Furthermore, Oklahoma City’s bench outscored Memphis’ bench 33-14.

Commenting on the Thunder’s depth, Gilgeous-Alexander said, “It’s nothing new. We’ve seen it all year. It’s why we have the record we have.” In addition to his scoring, he contributed eight rebounds, five assists, and two steals.

The Thunder’s dominance in the series is evident, having outscored the Grizzlies by 40 points with Gilgeous-Alexander on the court. “He does so much more through the complete course of the game than just scoring for our team, and I think that’s showing up,” said Caruso, praising the star’s overall impact despite his shooting struggles.
