OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — With the NBA playoffs approaching, the Oklahoma City Thunder are focusing on fine-tuning their game during the final two regular season matches. Sitting at 66-14, the Thunder have already secured the best record in the league, allowing them to rest key players ahead of the postseason.

In preparation for Friday’s game against the Utah Jazz, the Thunder’s injury report lists many of their primary rotation players, which means role players like Aaron Wiggins will have increased responsibilities. Wiggins, who has faced challenges with injuries this season, including a recent Achilles injury that sidelined him for five games, is eager to regain his momentum.

“I just want to get back in the flow and help the team as much as I can,” Wiggins said after practice. His recent performance suggests he is on the right track. Wiggins struggled initially after his return, scoring only 15 points in his first three games back. However, he found his stride in the Thunder’s victory over the Phoenix Suns, where he netted 17 points, five rebounds, and three assists.

Wiggins, who is currently averaging 11.5 points per game, hopes to build on that performance in the upcoming games to establish a rhythm before the playoffs begin. He ranks fourth on the team in scoring, behind stars Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams, and Chet Holmgren.

Given the context of the Thunder’s final matchups against underwhelming opponents, Wiggins has the opportunity to take on a primary scoring role. “This is a big chance for me to step up. I need to show that I can handle the scoring load if called upon,” Wiggins added.

Alongside him on the court will be fellow playoff contributors like Isaiah Joe and Jaylin Williams. Wiggins’ versatility sets him apart, as he typically excels without needing the ball in his hands, making him a significant threat regardless of the lineup. His ability to create his own shot in crucial moments has been a highlight of his development this season.

This season, Wiggins has recorded 21 games with at least 15 points, including a career-high 41-point scoring spree. While he might not replicate that performance against the Jazz or the New Orleans Pelicans, his scoring potential remains vital as the Thunder eye playoff success.

“Confidence is key for Aaron, and we want to see him succeed in these last games,” Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault mentioned. With just a couple of games left, Wiggins is poised to show the Thunder that he can deliver when it matters most, helping boost his confidence ahead of a critical playoff run.
