Severe Thunderstorm Pennsylvania March 2025

PITTSBURGH, Pa. — A significant weather event is set to impact Pennsylvania with the potential for severe thunderstorms late Sunday into Monday. Residents are advised to prepare for scattered showers and possible thunderstorms, with higher risks expected in the early hours of Monday morning from midnight to 6 a.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for several counties, including Beaver, Allegheny, Washington, and Greene, effective until 3 a.m. Monday. While storms are expected to weaken as they approach, gusty winds and hail remain possible threats, particularly around Pittsburgh.

The cold front approaching the region will bring increased chances of rainfall throughout Monday, with isolated thunderstorms anticipated in the afternoon. According to local meteorologists, “Storms will be less intense as they move eastward, but damaging wind gusts could still occur,” said meteorologist Ryan from the local station.

As the weather system moves across the area, residents can expect temperatures to drop significantly. Current highs are reaching around 72 degrees, but by Tuesday, temperatures are forecasted to fall to the mid-50s, signaling a return to cooler, more seasonal conditions.

Monday’s forecast calls for lingering rain and perhaps another round of showers as the cold front fully moves through the region later in the day. “The best chance for significant rain will be during the afternoon, especially east of Pittsburgh,” added Ryan. Rain totals could reach between 0.5 to 1.0 inches, depending on the path of any thunderstorms.

Beyond Monday’s storms, the week will remain unsettled with additional rain chances anticipated through the first weekend of April. Forecasters have indicated that Thursday appears to be particularly wet, with another impact day declared due to expected heavy rain.

The recent warm weather will be short-lived, as cooler air is expected to settle in behind the cold front. With the combination of rain and dropping temperatures, residents are reminded to check their rain gear and prepare for damp conditions, particularly in the mornings.

“It’s crucial to have a plan in place for severe weather,” Nissan added. “Stay tuned for further updates as the situation develops.”
