Frances Tiafoe Dallas Open 2025 Tennis Match

DALLAS, Texas – Frances Tiafoe kicked off his Dallas Open campaign with a hard-fought victory over Japan’s Taro Daniel on Monday evening, securing a 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 win in the first round of the ATP 500 event. The fifth-seeded American, known for his flair and crowd engagement, rallied after dropping the second set to advance to the next round.

“That was massive. Once I held there at 1-0, I opened up the shoulders again. I felt good. Tennis is a game of inches, man,” Tiafoe said in his on-court interview. “As soon as I held there, I felt a big weight off my back, and I was able to swing out.”

Tiafoe dominated the opening set, winning 61% of his return points, but Daniel fought back in the second set. The match turned in the third set when Tiafoe broke Daniel’s serve after saving a break point, shifting momentum in his favor. Tiafoe will next face either Brandon Nakashima or Yoshihito Nishioka in the second round.

Meanwhile, Ben Shelton, another American standout, is set to face Spain’s Jaume Munar in a highly anticipated matchup. Shelton, who defeated Aleksandar Vukic in straight sets in the opening round, is favored due to his strong performance on indoor hard courts. Munar, a clay-court specialist, has struggled on this surface, making Shelton the clear favorite.

In another intriguing clash, Yoshihito Nishioka will take on Frances Tiafoe. Nishioka, who has won four of his last five matches, is in strong form and has shown dominance on indoor hard courts. Despite Tiafoe’s higher seeding, Nishioka’s recent performances suggest he could pull off an upset.

The Dallas Open, held at The Star, the Dallas Cowboys‘ headquarters, has drawn significant attention with its upgraded ATP 500 status. The tournament features a mix of rising stars and established players, including top seed Taylor Fritz, who is yet to play his first-round match.

In other results, eighth seed Matteo Arnaldi defeated Christopher Eubanks 6-3, 6-4, while Alejandro Davidovich Fokina eliminated Brandon Holt 6-1, 7-5. Australian Rinky Hijikata also advanced, defeating Adrian Mannarino 7-5, 6-3.

As the tournament progresses, all eyes will be on Shelton and Nishioka, who are poised to make waves in their respective matches. With the crowd’s energy and the stakes high, the Dallas Open promises more thrilling tennis action in the coming days.
