Ticket Sales Surge for High-Stakes Match Between América and León

MÉXICO CITY, Mexico — Ticket sales have reached unprecedented levels for the upcoming Liga MX match between Club América and León, scheduled for February 19, 2025, at the Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes. This is the first time in the regular season since moving to their new stadium that América has sold out tickets for a match.
Tickets for the highly anticipated clash were priced between 350 and 1,200 pesos. The increased demand reflects not only the competitiveness of the encounter but also the draw of international star James Rodríguez, who recently joined León. Rodríguez’s presence has captured the attention of fans and significantly influenced ticket sales.
The América team is fresh off a victory in 2023, having won three consecutive Liga MX titles in the short tournament era, and they remain one of the teams with the largest fan base in the country. Despite this, previous matches this season did not see a sell-out, prompting coach André Jardine to express disappointment over low attendance.
“Our fans need to fill the stadium; it’s easier to feel the atmosphere in a smaller venue,” Jardine remarked on January 31, referring to the historic significance of the team. “It’s pivotal that supporters attend every match and not just the finals. They should back the team through thick and thin.”
Previously, América’s match against Necaxa drew an attendance of 25,753 fans, marking 85 percent capacity. This upcoming match against León marks a significant increase in interest, primarily attributed to Rodríguez, who played for notable clubs like Real Madrid and Bayern Munich before joining Liga MX.
León currently leads the Liga MX table with 19 points, remaining unbeaten this season, while América follows closely with 16 points after suffering a recent loss to Necaxa. The match aims to further intensify the competition for the top league position.
In anticipation of the match, ticketing platforms like Ticketmaster have reported that no tickets remain available for purchase. The match, which will begin at 7:00 PM Central Time, is expected to attract around 36,681 spectators, painted in the team colors of yellow and blue.
Despite the significant ticket prices and the mid-week timing of the match, the high demand demonstrates the fans’ dedication to both teams. Americas’ management took noted risks with ticket pricing, but the decision proved fruitful as fans clamored for seats to witness the heated rivalry attempt to secure early dominance in the league.
León’s rapid rise this season stands in stark contrast to their previous performance in the 2024 Apertura, where they failed to qualify for the play-in game. Rodríguez’s impact has transformed the squad into contenders, markedly increasing interest in their matches.
The match will be broadcast on Canal 5 and TUDN in Mexico, with streaming options available through Vix Premium and FuboTV for audiences in the United States. Coverage is expected to attract significant viewership, reflecting the heightened interest surrounding this premier matchup.
