Tigers Sweep Doubleheader Against Orioles, Set Sights on Series Victory

DETROIT — The Detroit Tigers swept a doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday, winning both games 4-3 and 6-2 at Comerica Park. The victories have positioned the Tigers to finish the home stand on a high note with a series win on Sunday.
The Tigers took the first game in a tightly contested matchup, led by a strong start from pitcher Casey Mize. He was supported by key hits from players Javier Baez and Spencer Torkelson. The second game was less tense, with Keider Montero on the mound delivering a solid performance while the Tigers’ offense thrived.
“It feels good to get the wins we needed,” Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said. “We have a chance to sweep the series tomorrow, and we’re looking to keep this momentum going.”
The Tigers’ ace, Tarik Skubal, is set to take the mound on Sunday against Orioles right-hander Dean Kremer. Skubal, with a record of 2-2 and an ERA of 2.83, aims to secure his team’s third straight series win after two quality starts in recent outings.
Conversely, Kremer has struggled this season, posting a record of 2-3 and a high ERA of 6.84. The Orioles will need him to perform well to avoid further losses after falling six games below .500.
Saturday’s doubleheader showcased the ongoing struggles of the Orioles, especially their offense, which has had difficulty hitting with runners in scoring position. “We’re frustrated, but we’re trying to push through it,” said Orioles manager Brandon Hyde. “It’s tough to play behind in a doubleheader.”
Despite moments of potential throughout the games, including Gunnar Henderson’s RBI double and a three-run homer from Riley Greene in the second game, the overall performance was insufficient for the Orioles. Greene’s homer marked his fourth of the season and contributed to a solid offensive showing from the Tigers.
As Sunday approaches, both teams are focused on reversing recent trends, with the Tigers aiming for a series sweep and the Orioles looking to salvage their trip.
