Tijuana Struggles to Recover Ahead of Clash with Atlas

Tijuana, Mexico — Tijuana’s soccer team faces a challenging present as they prepare to take on Atlas this Sunday at Estadio Caliente. The Xolos are desperate for a comeback, having recorded only two victories, one draw, and seven defeats, leaving them near the bottom of the standings with seven points from a possible 30.
Despite their struggles, Tijuana achieved a significant win in their last match, decisively beating Guadalajara 3-0 during the second playoff of the Apertura 2024. This victory offers a glimmer of hope as they approach this critical matchup against Atlas.
Atlas also finds itself in a difficult position, currently ranked 13th with 10 points. The team, however, comes off a favorable result, defeating San Luis 3-1 at home and aims to build momentum against a Tijuana side seemingly lacking in answers.
In a related note, Chivas Guadalajara has been working to regain momentum following their early exit from the Apertura 2024 Play-In, which saw them under the management of Arturo Ortega after the departure of Fernando Gago to Boca Juniors. With Óscar García taking over the team, Chivas began 2025 with renewed optimism. Nonetheless, after 12 matches, half of which they lost, García stepped down, leaving Gerardo Espinoza to manage the team. Espinoza’s debut brought a promising 1-0 victory over America in the Concachampions.
America, under the leadership of André Jardine, has marked a remarkable era, clinching the Liga MX championship three times in a row during Apertura 2023, Clausura 2024, and Apertura 2024. Despite this domestic success, their target for 2025 is to strengthen their international presence, balancing commitments in the Clausura, Concachampions, and Leagues Cup.
The upcoming matchups also bring attention to the battle between Tigres UANL and Querétaro at Estadio El Volcán. This Friday, March 7, marks the start of Jornada 11 in the Liga BBVA MX as both teams clash at 7 p.m. CST. Celebrating the team’s 65th anniversary, Tigres are positioned as favorites, currently third in the standings with 19 points from six victories, one draw, and three losses. In contrast, Querétaro struggles at the lower end of the table with just 10 points.
Additionally, Puebla will face Pumas later that evening, at 9 p.m. CST, as Efraín Juárez makes his debut as Pumas coach. Puebla comes in tenth with eight points, whereas Pumas sits in 12th with 11 points, aiming to break into playoff contention.
