Tim Wilson to Seek Redemption in Goldstein Rematch Against Zoe Daniel
Former Liberal minister Tim Wilson has been selected as the candidate for the electorate of Goldstein in Victoria, setting the stage for a rematch with Independent Zoe Daniel.
Wilson, who previously held the seat before losing it to Daniel in the last election, received the endorsement from the Liberal Party after a rigorous selection process involving around 300 party members.
The Victorian Liberal Party announced late on Sunday that Wilson’s dedication to public service integrity and commitment to the Goldstein community were key factors in his preselection.
During the last federal election, Wilson faced a 13.1% swing against him, resulting in his defeat to Zoe Daniel, a former journalist turned politician.
Since entering the political arena, Daniel has been an outspoken advocate on various issues including gambling advertising, vaping regulations, Indigenous rights, and the case of Julian Assange.
Wilson’s focus for the upcoming election includes initiatives to enhance home ownership opportunities for young residents in Goldstein, aiming to foster stronger families and communities within the electorate.
His desire to reclaim the seat from Daniel and serve the Goldstein community once again underscores his unwavering dedication to public service.
The 2022 election saw several previously secure Liberal seats, including Goldstein, being lost to progressive independent candidates, dubbed as the teals, amidst a landslide victory for the Labor party.
Representatives from both Wilson’s and Daniel’s camps were approached for comments on the upcoming rematch in the hotly contested Goldstein electorate.
