Timberwolves Aim for Playoff Position Against Injured Nuggets

DENVER, Colo. — The Minnesota Timberwolves are set to face the Denver Nuggets in a pivotal Western Conference clash at 9 p.m. CT Tuesday at Ball Arena. The Timberwolves enter the contest with a recent 123-104 victory over the Detroit Pistons, a game that shifted momentum after a second-quarter brawl.
Currently, Minnesota stands as the seventh seed in the Western Conference, trailing the sixth-seeded Golden State Warriors by just half a game. With a record of 43-32, the Timberwolves aim to secure their playoff berth without entering the Play-In Tournament. “We need every game, every win we can get right now,” said Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards.
On the injury front, the Nuggets are facing challenges. While superstar center Nikola Jokic is expected to play despite a left ankle impingement, guard Jamal Murray will be out with right hamstring tightness. Murray’s absence is significant, as he is the Nuggets’ second-leading scorer and pivotal to their offensive production. In addition, forward Aaron Gordon is questionable due to illness and calf management.
Nuggets coach Michael Malone expressed optimism about Jokic’s return. “He’s just a warrior; he shows up each night for us,” Malone said. Denver, featuring the third-best record in the Western Conference at 47-28, will also be missing shooting guard Julian Strawther and power forward DaRon Holmes II, both ruled out due to injuries.
The Timberwolves will also be without key players due to suspensions stemming from the previous game against the Pistons. Center/power forward Naz Reid and guard Donte DiVincenzo will serve one-game suspensions, impacting Minnesota’s depth. Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch commented, “It’s tough to lose those guys, but we’ve got to adjust. Everyone has to step up.”
With the playoffs approaching, consistency and performance will be key factors for both teams. The Timberwolves have won seven of their last 10 games, while the Nuggets have managed to win only five out of their last 10, complicating their playoff positioning.
Fans can watch the game live on TNT, as both teams look to solidify their postseason aspirations in a tightly contested conference race.
