LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Minnesota Timberwolves are making moves to bolster their roster for the playoffs, signing guard Jaylen Clark to a standard contract and bringing in Bones Hyland on a two-way deal. This strategic decision comes amid injury challenges faced by several players on the team.

Clark, a 23-year-old guard, transitioned from a two-way contract to a fully guaranteed NBA minimum contract for this season and the next. Since entering the rotation late in January, he has distinguished himself as a defensive specialist, significantly contributing to the team’s performance during a critical stretch of the season.

Following an arduous rehabilitation process for a ruptured Achilles tendon, which sidelined him for his entire rookie season, Clark averaged 6.9 points and 1.7 rebounds over 11 games in February, shooting 47.4% from the field and 44% from three-point range.

“I love being in Minnesota, I’m excited,” Clark said. “It feels like I’m officially a part of everything. I can play in the playoffs. It’s been cool. The journey has been long, but it’s been well worthwhile.”

Timberwolves President of Basketball Operations Tim Connelly expressed his satisfaction with Clark’s development. “What he’s had to endure to come back from injury…his attitude has always been great,” Connelly remarked.

In addition to Clark’s signing, the Timberwolves secured Hyland, a former first-round draft pick who had stints with both the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Clippers. Hyland averaged 9.7 points, 2.7 assists, and shot 39% from beyond the arc throughout his career before joining Minnesota.

“This is a great opportunity for me,” Hyland said. “I’m looking forward to reconnecting with Tim Connelly and contributing to the team’s success.”

Hyland was traded to the Atlanta Hawks earlier this month after playing 20 games with the Clippers. His addition marks a reunion with Connelly, who selected him in the 2021 draft.

As the Timberwolves prepare for the postseason, these roster adjustments highlight their intent to field a competitive team. Clark’s ascent and Hyland’s signing are both pivotal to Minnesota’s playoff ambitions as they navigate a challenging remainder of the season.
