Timberwolves Outlast Grizzlies in High-Scoring Affair
In a thrilling high-scoring battle, the Minnesota Timberwolves emerged victorious over the Memphis Grizzlies with a final score of 118-103. The game, held at the Target Center in Minneapolis, showcased impressive performances from both teams’ star players.
Memphis started the game with their 23rd different starting lineup this season, featuring Jaren Jackson Jr, Luke Kennard, Vince Williams Jr, Xavier Tillman Sr, and John Konchar. The Grizzlies quickly gained a 13-point lead in the first quarter thanks to efficient offense. However, as substitutions were made, the Timberwolves responded with a strong 16-3 run, ending the first quarter tied with Memphis.
Jaren Jackson Jr. dominated the first half, scoring 23 points and displaying great skill against the Timberwolves’ formidable frontcourt duo of Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert. He seemed poised for a dominant third quarter after reaching 28 points, but foul trouble forced him to sit out the remainder of the quarter. Despite this setback, Luke Kennard’s hot shooting helped keep Memphis ahead with a 15-point performance in the quarter.
Unfortunately for the Grizzlies, Jackson Jr. picked up his fifth foul early in the fourth quarter, leading to Minnesota’s 11-0 run that shifted the momentum in their favor. Former Grizzlies point guard Mike Conley played a crucial role in the Timberwolves’ surge, contributing 17 points, 10 assists, and two steals. Conley’s steadiness on both ends of the court caused consistent trouble for Memphis.
This loss to Minnesota marks the beginning of a challenging stretch for the Grizzlies, with seven games in 13 days, including four on the road. Their next game is against the Chicago Bulls, a team they haven’t faced yet this season.
