Timberwolves Take Commanding 3-1 Lead Over Warriors in NBA Playoffs

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — The Minnesota Timberwolves are one win away from advancing to the Western Conference Finals after defeating the Golden State Warriors 117-110 in Game 4 of the playoffs on May 12, 2025.
The Timberwolves responded strongly after losing Game 1, showcasing their depth and versatility. Nickeil Alexander-Walker played a pivotal role in the victory, scoring a playoff career-high of 20 points. His performance sparked Minnesota after struggles in earlier games, where he shot just 9-of-34 against the Los Angeles Lakers.
Before Game 4, Alexander-Walker refocused on defending and rebounding instead of stressing about scoring. “We really needed this game from him,” Timberwolves coach Chris Finch said. “We challenged him yesterday to be able to contribute like this. Like he has all season.”
Despite not having to rely on any single player, the Timberwolves’ coordination capitalized on their chances. Anthony Edwards was not the standout scorer this time, but Julius Randle stepped up in the first quarter with 19 points.
Golden State managed to take a brief lead at halftime, 60-58, largely due to Jonathan Kuminga’s performance. However, Minnesota dominated the second half, outscoring the Warriors significantly in the third quarter.
The Timberwolves’ success this postseason can be attributed to their strong bench and the coaching staff’s trust in Alexander-Walker. During his time with the Pelicans, he demonstrated an incredible work ethic, even playing hurt and pushing through challenges.
While the Warriors had previously overcome a 3-1 series deficit in the playoffs, they now face elimination without their star player, Stephen Curry. Head coach Steve Kerr expressed concern about the team’s current lack of depth in playmakers, emphasizing the need to adapt to the absence of their top scorer.
The Timberwolves will look to close out the series with a win in Game 5 on May 14, 2025, in Minneapolis. Both teams know that every possession will be crucial in this high-stakes playoff matchup.
