Minnesota Timberwolves Vs Phoenix Suns Basketball Game

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — The Minnesota Timberwolves showcased a dominant defensive performance on March 28, 2025, defeating the Phoenix Suns 124-109 at the Target Center. With playoff aspirations in sight, the Timberwolves highlighted their urgency and intensity on both ends of the court.

Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch observed the revival of his team’s defensive prowess, stating, “Our defensive intensity was back. More of a playoff urgency to what we were doing tonight.” Early in the game, Jaden McDaniels set the tone, nailing a three-pointer to ignite the crowd.

By the close of the first quarter, Minnesota held a 27-21 lead and extended it to 57-45 by halftime. McDaniels contributed significantly with 16 points and three rebounds, particularly shining in his defensive assignment against Suns star Kevin Durant. Finch praised McDaniels, saying, “He was really special tonight defensively and we need more of that.”

Rudy Gobert mirrored McDaniels’ energy on defense, collecting 13 rebounds and scoring 17 points. His eight dunks and rim protection were crucial in throttling the Suns’ offensive efforts. Commenting on his leadership role, Gobert remarked, “I got to set the tone for the team. Not just tonight, it’s got to be every night.”

Finch recognized Gobert’s impact, saying, “He’s got to play like the defensive player of the year that he’s been. He was huge around the rim.” Gobert emphasized the Timberwolves’ consistency in practice as a translation to their floor performance: “We put a lot of work every day in practice and that translates to the floor. It’s about being consistent with our mindset.”

As playoff season approaches, Gobert outlined the significance of maintaining high intensity, remarking, “We play at our peak when we have the level of fear and urgency, a survival instinct. There is nobody we can’t beat when we play that way.”

The Timberwolves’ offensive depth was evident, led by Julius Randle, who finished with 25 points and six rebounds. Anthony Edwards, Mike Conley, and Donte DiVincenzo also contributed from beyond the arc. Despite a brief scare early on, the team maintained composure and increased their advantage.

Gobert underscored the importance of a strong start, stating, “Having a great start is huge for us. It’s about mental toughness and awareness to be consistent and play the right way for 40 minutes.” With the win, the Timberwolves improved their record to 36-28, solidifying their position in the playoff race.
