MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota — The Minnesota Timberwolves overcame a first-half injury to Anthony Edwards to defeat the Golden State Warriors, 117-93, in Game 2 of the Western Conference semifinals on May 8, 2025. The victory ties the series at one game apiece as it heads to San Francisco for Game 3 on Saturday.
Edwards left the game in the second quarter after spraining his ankle, but returned fresh to start the third quarter. He finished with 20 points, nine rebounds, and five assists. “I knew I had to push through for my team,” said Edwards after the game.
Julius Randle led the Timberwolves in scoring with 24 points, alongside Nickeil Alexander-Walker, who contributed 20 points off the bench. Jaden McDaniels also had a strong performance with 16 points, three blocks, and three steals.
The Timberwolves shot 50.6% from the field, including 16-of-37 from beyond the arc after struggling from three-point range in their Game 1 loss. Coach Chris Finch praised the team’s effort, stating, “We came out with more energy and focus tonight.”
The Warriors, missing star guard Stephen Curry due to a hamstring injury, struggled offensively. Jimmy Butler led Golden State with 17 points, while Brandin Podziemski added 11 points in the defeat.
After a strong first quarter where the Timberwolves led 29-15, the Warriors tried to mount a comeback in the third quarter, cutting the lead to seven points. However, Minnesota responded effectively, showcasing their depth and resilience.
“We knew this was a must-win game,” Randle said. “We had to protect our home court.”
The next game is crucial for both teams as the series shifts to Golden State, where the Warriors will seek to regain control.
