Timo Werner Attends Championship Match in Sheffield
Timo Werner, the Tottenham Hotspur forward, made a surprise appearance at a Championship match, traveling almost 200 miles from London to watch Sheffield Wednesday take on Plymouth Argyle.
The game took place at Hillsborough on Sunday, where Sheffield Wednesday secured a convincing 4-0 victory. Werner, who is currently on loan from RB Leipzig, was spotted after signing a short-term deal in January and extending his stay over the summer.
In his time with Spurs, Werner has played 14 matches and scored two goals. His latest agreement includes an option to buy for £8.5 million. Just the day before, he was a second-half substitute in a friendly against Bayern Munich, which unfortunately ended in a 3-2 loss for Spurs.
So, what prompted Werner to travel to South Yorkshire? It turns out he was there to support his father-in-law, Sascha Lense, who works as the performance manager for Sheffield Wednesday. Lense recently joined the club after a stint at Manchester United and has been with Paula Lense since 2015.
Sheffield Wednesday’s strong win was particularly sweet, as they narrowly avoided relegation last season. The match inflicted a tough start for Plymouth Argyle’s new manager, Wayne Rooney, who was understandably disappointed with the result.
