Titans Pull Off Stunning Comeback Against Dolphins
The Gold Coast Titans pulled off an incredible comeback on Sunday afternoon, overcoming a 14-0 deficit to defeat the Dolphins 21-14 at Suncorp Stadium.
The Dolphins started the match strong, with Tevita Pangai Junior scoring the first try just four minutes in. Thanks to Katoa’s quick thinking, the Dolphins got off to a quick 6-0 lead. They kept the pressure on, and soon enough, Jesse Bromwich scored a second try, putting the Dolphins ahead 12-0.
A penalty goal stretched the Dolphins’ lead to 14-0. Things looked promising; however, a potential third try for the Dolphins was ruled out by the Bunker due to an obstruction call on Herbie Farnworth. The momentum shifted in favor of the Titans right before halftime when Josh Kerr was sent to the sin bin for a foul on Brian Kelly, allowing the Titans to capitalize shortly after with Kelly’s try, bringing the score to 14-6.
After halftime, the Dolphins were forced to defend a man down but quickly saw their advantage dwindle as Alofiana Khan-Pereira scored in the corner, narrowing the Dolphins’ lead to just four points.
Things went from bad to worse for the Dolphins as Khan-Pereira scored again, putting the Titans ahead 14-10. The Titans pressed hard, and a blunder from Jesse Bromwich gave them a great field position and another try, thanks to Chris Randall’s crafty kick that rebounded perfectly for Kleese Haas.
With the Titans now leading, Kieran Foran sealed the deal with a field goal, completing their impressive comeback and leaving the Dolphins in a tough spot as they fell just short of victory.
Michael Ennis and Cooper Cronk, commentating on the game, noted how much the Titans improved after a harsh halftime pep talk from coach Des Hasler. The performance shift was evident, highlighting the quality of the Titans’ new half combination, Foran and Campbell, who were instrumental in turning the game around.
