Florida Atlantic University (FAU) has made the decision to fire head coach Tom Herman, a move that comes after less than two seasons at the helm. This decision follows a disappointing 2024 season where the Owls have struggled, currently standing at a 2-8 record.

Herman’s tenure at FAU has been marked by underperformance, with the team accumulating a 6-16 overall record during his time as head coach. The final straw appears to have been a recent loss to Temple, which further solidified the team’s poor standing this season.

Chad Lunsford is expected to take over as the interim head coach for the remainder of the season. Lunsford’s appointment is part of the immediate restructuring following Herman’s departure.

This is not the first time Herman has faced dismissal. He was previously fired from his position as head coach at the University of Texas. Herman’s career has seen significant ups and downs, but his stint at FAU has been particularly challenging.
