Tony Khan Discusses AEW’s Growth Ahead of Double or Nothing

GLENDALE, Arizona — AEW President Tony Khan held a media call on May 22, 2025, to promote the upcoming Double or Nothing event, scheduled for May 25. This year marks the first time the annual event will take place outside of Las Vegas since AEW’s inception in 2019.
Khan addressed several key topics during the hour-long call, including pay-per-view distribution, the improvements made to AEW Dynamite, and plans for Women’s Tag Team titles. He noted that AEW events will be available on Amazon Prime, and clarified that Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) is still working on developing pay-per-view buying capabilities through their Max platform.
“There was never an expectation that the technology would be ready by Q1 or Q2 of 2025,” Khan explained, countering claims of a delay. He shifted the focus to his excitement about Amazon Prime, expressing confidence in the future of AEW’s streaming strategy.
Highlighting a creative resurgence, Khan remarked on the perceived improvements in AEW Dynamite. He attributed this success to a tighter control over the creative process, with fewer voices involved. “Improvement is subjective, but data shows our audience grew in Q1 and is doing really well in Q2,” he said.
Khan displayed enthusiasm for this weekend’s Double or Nothing card, which features several intriguing matchups. The main event pits “Hangman” Adam Page against Will Ospreay, a decision Khan stated was based on the dynamic storytelling both wrestlers have created in AEW. Other matches include Jamie Hayter versus Mercedes Mone and Kenny Omega teaming with Swerve Strickland and Willow Nightingale against the Young Bucks.
He mentioned the positive atmosphere backstage, which he noted is the best it’s been since the pandemic era at Daily’s Place. “I love coming to work,” Khan said. He also expressed pride in wrestler Darby Allin, who recently made headlines for climbing Mount Everest.
In addition, Khan discussed the potential introduction of women’s tag titles, emphasizing the growth of the women’s division as one of AEW’s exciting developments. “It’s a very realistic goal at some point,” he affirmed. He also intends to rebuild the men’s tag division following injuries to key talents.
Khan wrapped up the call by reflecting on AEW’s six-year history and thanking fans for their support. He is optimistic about the future of the promotion and is eager to see how the upcoming events unfold.
As AEW continues to expand its reach and refine its programming, fans can expect a thrilling performance at Double or Nothing this Sunday.
