Torrey Pines Golf Course 2025 Farmers Insurance Open

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — World No. 4 Collin Morikawa and two other top golfers withdrew from the 2025 Farmers Insurance Open on Sunday, shaking up the field just days before the tournament begins at Torrey Pines Golf Course. Morikawa, Denmark’s Nicolai Højgaard, and South Korea’s Sungjae Im exited the 156-player event, with no official reasons provided for their departures.

The withdrawals follow world No. 2 Xander Schauffele‘s announcement on Saturday that he would not compete due to a “medical issue.” Morikawa, who finished second at The Sentry earlier this month, was expected to be a key contender at Torrey Pines, a course known for its challenging layout and scenic coastal views.

The Farmers Insurance Open, scheduled from Wednesday to Saturday, adjusted its dates to avoid conflicting with the NFL’s conference championship games. The tournament will feature a purse of $9.3 million and a star-studded field, including Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama, Sweden’s Ludvig Åberg, and Australia’s Jason Day.

Matsuyama, a three-time winner since the start of the 2024 season, headlines the event despite never having won at Torrey Pines. He is joined by other international stars like Ireland’s Shane Lowry and South Korea’s Sungjae Im, who have been dominant in early-season PGA Tour events.

American golfers Tony Finau, Will Zalatoris, and Keegan Bradley are among the top contenders aiming to break the international streak. Finau, a six-time PGA Tour winner, has a strong track record at Torrey Pines, with nine top-25 finishes in 10 appearances. Bradley, the U.S. Ryder Cup captain, has three top-five finishes at the course, including a runner-up result in 2023.

Shane Lowry, coming off a strong performance on the DP World Tour, is also a contender, while England’s Aaron Rai is a sleeper pick due to his driving accuracy and recent PGA Tour victory.

The tournament will be played on the South Course at Torrey Pines, a par-72 layout stretching 7,765 yards. Known for its length and difficulty, the course will test players’ precision and endurance, making it one of the most challenging stops on the PGA Tour calendar.

With several top players withdrawing, the 2025 Farmers Insurance Open promises an unpredictable and competitive week of golf as the remaining field vies for the title at one of the sport’s most iconic venues.
