Collin Morikawa Golf Farmers Insurance Open Torrey Pines

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — World No. 4 Collin Morikawa and two other golfers withdrew from the Farmers Insurance Open on Sunday, just days before the tournament is set to begin at Torrey Pines. Morikawa, Denmark’s Nicolai Højgaard, and Tyler McCumber were replaced by Wesley Bryan, Hayden Springer, and South Korea’s S.H. Kim, respectively. No official reasons were provided for the withdrawals.

The news follows world No. 2 Jon Rahm‘s announcement on Saturday that he would also skip the event due to a “medical issue.” Morikawa, who finished second at The Sentry earlier this month, was expected to be a top contender at the Farmers Insurance Open.

This marks the latest in a series of high-profile withdrawals during the PGA Tour‘s 2025 season. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler missed the season-opening Sentry tournament after a kitchen accident on Christmas Day, while Jake Knapp withdrew from the Sony Open in Hawaii. Scheffler and Xander Schauffele also pulled out of Week 3’s event.

The Farmers Insurance Open, which runs from Wednesday to Saturday, adjusted its schedule to avoid conflicting with the NFL‘s conference championship games next Sunday. The tournament will now proceed without some of its biggest names, leaving fans and organizers to adapt to the changes.

Morikawa’s absence is particularly notable, as he has been a consistent performer on the tour. His second-place finish at The Sentry demonstrated his strong form early in the season. Meanwhile, Højgaard and McCumber’s withdrawals add to the growing list of players opting out of key events this year.

The PGA Tour has yet to comment on the reasons behind the recent wave of withdrawals, leaving fans and analysts speculating about potential injuries, scheduling conflicts, or other factors influencing the decisions.
