The upcoming weekend at Ayr is set to witness a fierce competition among the top jumps trainers from both sides of the Irish Sea at the Coral Scottish Grand National meeting.

With £500,000 in prize money up for grabs, the race to be champion trainer has intensified after Willie Mullins claimed victory at the recent Randox Grand National with I Am Maximus, putting him in the lead for the prestigious title last won by Vincent O’Brien 70 years ago.

Mullins is gearing up with a strong team for Ayr, with six entries in the Coral Scottish Grand National including Macdermott and Mr Incredible among others. Dan Skelton and reigning champion Paul Nicholls are closely trailing Mullins with their own entries for the big meeting as well, setting the stage for an exhilarating climax to the jumps season.

As the season nears its end at Sandown next Saturday, the pressure mounts on the trainers and their equine stars to secure crucial wins at Ayr.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Red Rum‘s historic double win at Aintree and the Scottish Grand National, a feat unmatched since then. With contenders like Mr Vango, the quest for a new champion at Ayr gains momentum.

The Coral Scottish Grand National, initially held at Houston before moving to Ayr, has a rich history dating back to 1858. Scotland’s premier jumps racing event continues to draw large crowds, with this year’s edition sparking even more interest due to the tight competition for the trainers’ title.
