Top Point Guard Jalen Lewis Commits to Villanova

Washington, D.C. — Jalen Lewis, a highly ranked point guard from Sidwell Friends School, announced his commitment to Villanova on Thursday. The 2025 recruit chose Villanova after considering offers from multiple schools, including Maryland and Kentucky. Lewis had previously committed to Maryland before reopening his recruitment in April.
Lewis, who stands at 6 feet 2 inches, is ranked as ESPN’s No. 35 overall recruit and is recognized for his ability to score and create opportunities for teammates. He expressed confidence in his decision, stating, “The staff I ultimately had the most trust in was Nova. We built a relationship since my sophomore year, when I first transferred to Sidwell.” He noted that Villanova’s coach Kevin Willard was among the first to recognize his potential at Maryland.
Last season, Lewis proved his skills during the Nike EYBL, averaging 6.1 assists, 16.7 points, and 4.9 rebounds per game for Team Durant. His performance established him as one of the top pick-and-roll operators in his class. Lewis’s dynamic playing style and scoring ability make him a significant addition to Villanova’s roster, especially as they look to rebuild after losing several players to the transfer portal.
Willard, who became the head coach of Villanova in March, is focused on restocking the team’s talent. Lewis marks the ninth and highest-ranked recruit added since Willard’s hiring. The coach’s ability to attract local talent is seen as crucial for reinvigorating Villanova’s program, especially after the team’s struggles in recent seasons.
“Nova is a historic program built on winning, and I want to be a part of the revival,” Lewis added, emphasizing his desire to play a significant role in the team’s future.
