Dame Sarr Basketball Commitment

Durham, North Carolina – Top international basketball prospect Dame Sarr has officially committed to Duke University, calling it his “dream school.” Sarr revealed his decision to ESPN on Thursday, expressing excitement about joining a program he has long admired.

“Duke was my dream school,” Sarr said. “I watched a lot of NCAA games this season, especially Duke. I played with Jabari Parker this season, who went to Duke. When I had the chance to go there, I had to take it.”

The 6-foot-8 wing, originally from Italy, has made significant strides in European basketball. He debuted in the Spanish ACB league as a 16-year-old in 2023, making him the second-youngest player in the club’s history. Sarr also showcased his talent on the international stage, making his debut with the Italian senior national team in November after excelling in the FIBA U16 and U18 Eurobaskets.

Last month, Sarr gained attention at the Nike Hoop Summit in Portland, Oregon, where he scored 17 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 25 minutes against elite U.S. high school athletes, including future Duke teammates Cameron and Cayden Boozer.

However, his participation in the event drew some criticism from his current club, FC Barcelona. The club released a statement expressing disappointment over his departure without approval, although Sarr believed he had a prior agreement to attend. “We had an agreement to allow me to go to Hoop Summit,” he explained. “My teammates supported me in my decision, and I still love Barcelona.”

Sarr is poised to play a crucial role for Duke next season alongside rising sophomore players and incoming McDonald’s All Americans. He aims to bring versatility to the team, particularly in the absence of departing players. “My winning mentality and ability to play alongside other good players will help me,” Sarr stated.

He recently completed an official visit to Duke and plans to enroll after obtaining his visa next month.
