Arkansas Georgia Baseball Game Foley Field

ATHENS, Ga. — No. 1 Arkansas and No. 6 Georgia are set to face off this weekend in a highly anticipated three-game series at Foley Field, starting Friday at 5 p.m. Central. Both teams are looking to solidify their standings in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) with Arkansas boasting a record of 31-3 and Georgia at 30-5.

Arkansas enters the series with a remarkable 11-1 SEC record, riding an eight-game win streak, while Georgia seeks to extend its own one-game winning streak after a previous win against the Razorbacks. The match is pivotal for both teams as they navigate the competitive landscape of college baseball.

Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn, in his 23rd season with a career record of 914-460, is optimistic about his team’s chances. “We’ve worked hard to establish our rhythm this season,” Van Horn said. “The guys are ready for the challenge that playing in Athens brings.”

Georgia’s second-year coach, Wes Johnson, has led the Bulldogs to a 73-22 record overall. “We have a great group of guys who thrive under pressure,” Johnson noted. “Facing the top team in the nation will test us, but we are excited for the challenge.”

In the head-to-head series, Arkansas leads with a 38-28 record over Georgia, including their latest encounter in which Georgia triumphed 9-8 on April 22, 2023. The winner of this series could gain significant momentum as the season progresses.

The starting pitchers for the opening game will be Arkansas’ Gabe Gaeckle (2-0, 5.77 ERA) taking on Georgia’s Kolten Smith (2-1, 4.34 ERA). Both pitchers are looking to improve their statistics and help their team secure the crucial win.

According to the National Weather Service, game conditions in Athens this weekend are expected to be favorable with clear skies and a high temperature of 67 degrees on Saturday. The games will be broadcast on SEC Network+ and can be accessed through WatchESPN and the ESPN app, with Matt Stewart and Jason Jacobs providing commentary.

Fans can also tune in to the Razorback Sports Network for radio coverage, featuring Phil Elson as the play-by-play announcer. “The excitement around this matchup is electric, and we can’t wait to see how our team performs,” Elson said.

As the teams prepare for the series opener, both sides are aware of the implications this matchup holds for their standings in the SEC. “Every game in the SEC is crucial, but this series has a little more weight,” said Arkansas player. “We just have to focus on our game and execute.”
