Torneo Apertura 2025 Heats Up As Liguilla Approaches
MONTERREY, Mexico — The race for playoff positions in the Liga MX continues to intensify as teams vie for favorable standings in the Liguilla and Play In of the Torneo Apertura 2025. After Week 14, only nine points remain up for grabs in the final three matches.
The Diablos Rojos lead the tournament with 32 points, following a solid victory against Tijuana. Toluca will face Pachuca in matchweek 15, then take on Atlas in matchweek 16, and conclude the regular season with a home game against America.
America, after a tense 2-1 win over last-place Puebla, holds second place with 30 points, putting them in a strong position to secure a high seed. Meanwhile, Monterrey solidified their spot at third after a decisive 4-2 win against FC Juárez.
Tigres moved up to fourth place, having beaten Pachuca 2-1 at Estadio Hidalgo. Their next challenge is against Tijuana, a team fighting for a direct playoff position.
On the other hand, Cruz Azul struggled with a 1-1 draw against Necaxa, dropping them to fifth place. This result now puts them at risk of slipping out of direct playoff contention if they don’t perform well against Monterrey in their upcoming game. The Brenda Jalisciense side is clinging to a position in the Play In.
Pachuca’s loss and Tijuana’s draw have increased the likelihood of Xolos reaching direct qualification, while the Tuzos now face the threat of entering the Play In. Chivas‘ lack of points against Querétaro has left them needing wins to keep playoff hopes alive.
In the midst of this bustling competition, several teams still harbor dreams of reaching the playoff positions. Atlas, now tied with San Luis, has a chance to advance if they can secure a victory in their next game against Necaxa.
For teams like Pumas, Santos, and Querétaro, currently sitting at 14 points each, the door remains open if they can add points in their last matches. Meanwhile, Mazatlán and León must rely on not just their wins, but favorable outcomes from other matches to avoid elimination.
As the Apertura 2025 season nears its conclusion, each point matters more than ever, and the competition promises to remain fierce.
