Toronto FC secured a place in the final of the Canadian Championship after defeating Forge FC 1-0 in the second leg of the semifinal at BMO Field.

Lorenzo Insigne scored the decisive goal early in the second half, which propelled Toronto FC to victory and ensured their passage to the championship match.

Defender Henry Wingo emphasized the team’s unwavering mentality, stating, ‘Whether we’re ahead coming into this game, it doesn’t matter. We still want to win.’

Toronto FC will now face the Vancouver Whitecaps in the final, which is scheduled to take place on September 25.

The Whitecaps earned their spot in the final by defeating Pacific FC 1-0, maintaining their lead after winning the first leg by the same score.

In the earlier match of the semifinal, Forge FC had taken the lead with goals from Kwasi Poku and Beni Badibanga, while Toronto FC’s substitute Prince Owusu scored an important away goal.

Head coach John Herdman acknowledged the pressure of the match, stating, ‘We had quite a few chances but it’s where our team is at. We’re fighting, we’re really all fighting together.’

During the match, Toronto FC displayed a strong attack, dominating possession and creating several scoring opportunities.

Insigne’s goal came in the 49th minute, following a well-executed play involving Derrick Etienne Jr. and Federico Bernardeschi, who assisted the goal scorer.

The goal shifted the momentum in favor of Toronto, forcing Forge FC to increase their offensive efforts to avoid elimination from the tournament.

Despite several close calls and defensive challenges, Toronto FC held onto their lead and clinched the victory.
