Toronto Raptors Acquire Davion Mitchell in Trade with Sacramento Kings
The Toronto Raptors have made a significant move in the NBA trade market by acquiring Davion Mitchell from the Sacramento Kings. The trade, reported by ESPN‘s Adrian Wojnarowski, includes Mitchell, Sasha Vezenkov, and the 45th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft in exchange for Jalen McDaniels.
This trade was made possible due to a trade exception the Raptors obtained from their previous Pascal Siakam trade, enabling them to take on more salary than they are sending to Sacramento.
Davion Mitchell, known as ‘Off Night’, is a 25-year-old player with a focus on defense. While his offensive game is a work in progress, his defensive skills have earned him a reputation as a strong point-of-attack defender. He has shown promise in improving his shooting, making him a valuable asset for the Raptors.
Sasha Vezenkov, the 2023 EuroLeague MVP, adds depth and versatility to the Raptors’ roster. Despite a disappointing rookie season in Sacramento, Vezenkov is expected to provide a spark as a shooter and creator off the bench for Toronto.
Additionally, the Raptors received a second-round pick in the 2024 draft, giving them more opportunities to strengthen their team. The trade may impact the Raptors’ cap space, but it brings in players who are likely to contribute significantly in the upcoming seasons.
For the Sacramento Kings, this trade clears salary and a roster spot, providing them with more flexibility for future moves. It also opens up playing time for Devin Carter, the 13th overall pick in the 2024 draft.
This trade benefits both teams, with the Kings freeing up resources and the Raptors adding valuable assets to their roster as they continue to rebuild and strategize for future success.
UPDATE: The Raptors will also receive Portland‘s 2025 second-round pick as part of the trade deal.
