Toronto FC Signs England Youth International Matty Longstaff
Toronto FC, a Major League Soccer (MLS) club, has secured the signing of former England youth international, Matty Longstaff, with a contract extending for two years and an optional extension for 2026.
The 23-year-old midfielder recently concluded a four-season stint with Newcastle United, where he made 20 appearances, including shining in a Premier League debut against Manchester United, scoring a spectacular goal.
Longstaff, a native of Rotherham, started his professional career at Newcastle and has since had loan spells at Aberdeen FC, Mansfield Town, and Colchester United.
His Premier League experience and dynamic playing style have caught the eye of Toronto FC’s head coach, John Herdman, who sees Longstaff as a valuable addition to the squad.
Matty Longstaff is the second trialist to impress in pre-season trials sponsored by Toronto FC, following French defender Nicksoen Gomis from Sheffield United.
The Longstaff family has deep ties to sports, with his father, David, boasting an impressive ice hockey career, having represented Britain over 100 times as an international player.
Toronto FC is gearing up to face off against the New England Revolution this weekend as they kick off their season campaign.
The signing of Matty Longstaff adds depth and talent to Toronto FC’s midfield, marking a significant move in the team’s pursuit of success in the MLS.
