Toto Wolff Rules Out Mick Schumacher as Hamilton’s Replacement at Mercedes in 2025
Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has communicated to Mick Schumacher that he will not be considered as a potential replacement for Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes in the upcoming 2025 Formula 1 season according to reports.
The young driver, Mick Schumacher, who was let go by Haas at the conclusion of the 2022 season after a two-year stint with the American outfit, has been Porsche GT driver, has been the reserve driver for Mercedes since.
He is also engaged to drive for Alpine in the prestigious World Endurance Championship’s hypercar category this year.
Despite his aspirations to secure a full-time F1 seat, Schumacher’s hopes of rejoining the grid with Mercedes have been dashed as Wolff is already looking elsewhere for Hamilton’s successor.
Recently, Schumacher took part in a private test session at the Silverstone track with Mercedes, prompting speculation of a potential opportunity to join the Silver Arrows in 2025.
However, sources have indicated that this test was not an evaluation for a race seat; Schumacher was primarily tasked with trialing specific car settings.
It is reported that Wolff’s top choice to replace Hamilton is Max Verstappen from Red Bull, although the Dutch driver is under contract until the end of 2028.
Wolff has openly expressed his admiration for Verstappen, stating his eagerness to have him on the Mercedes team if the opportunity arises.
Meanwhile, Mercedes protégé Kimi Antonelli is being considered as another potential candidate to step in for Hamilton, moving up the ranks after winning last year’s FRECA Championship and subsequently advancing to Formula Two.
The teenage driver has already been involved in a testing session with Mercedes and is anticipated to have more opportunities before the conclusion of this season, potentially making him one of the youngest drivers ever in F1 if he secures the role for 2025.
