Atlanta Hawks Trae Young Basketball Action

ATLANTA, Georgia — With the regular season nearing its conclusion, the Atlanta Hawks are making significant strides towards the playoffs while also grooming a promising young core. Four-time All-Star Trae Young recently reflected on these transitions, discussing the future of the franchise, the impact of new additions, and his own eligibility for contract extension talks this summer.

As the Hawks approach the end of the season, Young has accomplished a rare feat, becoming the first NBA player since Russell Westbrook in 2019 to achieve 1,500 points and 750 assists in a single season. Additionally, he leads the league in clutch points, assists, and three-pointers made. “This season has been about focusing on my role as a leader and helping these young guys develop,” Young told HoopsHype.

His leadership efforts include helping young players like Jalen Johnson and Dyson Daniels find their footing in the league. Young praised Johnson’s potential, stating, “For Jalen, the sky’s the limit. He just has to stay healthy.” He also highlighted his developing relationship with Daniels, recognizing him as a vital component in their backcourt.

Caris LeVert, acquired via trade, has also made a positive impact since joining the Hawks. Young commented on LeVert’s contributions, saying, “He’s a great player and a smart player who brings a lot of scoring.” Head Coach Quin Snyder echoed these sentiments, noting LeVert’s ability to enhance the team’s dynamics.

In addition to discussing teammates, Young addressed his approach to potential contract negotiations. “I’m focused on what we’re trying to achieve now. The future will take care of itself,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Washington Wizards also look to their future as veteran Khris Middleton mentors a youthful roster. Middleton emphasized the importance of developing habits and learning through the process. “I talk to them about daily habits, competing, and going through the process,” he shared after a recent game. He pointed out the potential of young players like Alex Sarr and Bilal Coulibaly.

Young players on the Wizards, including Justin Champagnie, have started to shine under pressure this season. Champagnie signed a four-year contract after previously facing difficulties securing a stable role in the NBA. He expressed his relief and excitement about his current opportunity. “They’ve allowed me to be myself, play my game, and they trust in what I do,” he said.

The Memphis Grizzlies, too, have experienced young talent growth with Dyson Daniels, who leads the league in steals per game. Daniels attributes his success to the confidence instilled in him by Coach Quin Snyder and his teammates. He models his defensive game on greats like Marcus Smart and remains focused on his development within the team.

Additionally, Iowa State’s Cam Spencer, currently with the Grizzlies, recounted his basketball journey from college to the NBA, noting pivotal moments along the way. “I always had the end goal of making it to the NBA and playing in the NBA for a while. I tried to get better every day as a player,” Spencer said.

As the final weeks of the season arrive, the Hawks, Wizards, and Grizzlies will continue to assess their trajectories and determine how best to leverage their young talent for future success.
