Tragic loss: Former baseball star Jesús Montero dies at 35

VALENCIA, Venezuela — Former professional baseball player Jesús Montero has died at the age of 35 following a tragic traffic accident. Montero, who was a beloved figure for the “Pájaros Rojos” and played a key role in their 2018-2019 LVBP championship, was involved in the accident while riding his motorcycle.
The incident occurred when Montero was struck by a truck whose driver fled the scene. Authorities are currently searching for the driver, but no leads have yet emerged.
Born in Guacara, Carabobo, Montero’s passion for the sport made him an honorary resident of Barquisimeto, where fans cherished him as one of their own. His contributions to Venezuelan baseball are well-remembered, as he began his career with the Navegantes del Magallanes before truly making his mark with the Cardenales de Lara.
During his tenure, Montero showcased his impressive talents, becoming known as the “Burul”. He hit seven home runs in the 2016 season and matched that feat in 2017, accumulating 93 RBIs over two seasons. Notably, he was traded to the Águilas del Zulia in November 2018, but his first hit in the league was achieved with Magallanes.
News of Montero’s passing has drawn heartfelt condolences from the community.
