Paul Dwayne, a prominent figure in Acadian country music, passed away at the age of 60 on Monday. His untimely death occurred at a campground in Campbellton, where he was preparing for a trip to Gaspésie, as confirmed by family members.

His son, James Després, who is also a country singer, stated that the exact cause of death remains unknown, although Paul had been dealing with heart problems for several years. The family is in shock, as he was still active and had performed recently.

Tributes began to pour in on Facebook Tuesday morning, with many expressing their sorrow over the loss of an artist affectionately known as Paul à Herb. Singer Hert LeBlanc referred to Dwayne’s passing as a significant loss to the country music community.

Provincial politician and comedian Robert Gauvin echoed this sentiment, stating that Dwayne was an incredible artist who had made a mark both in Acadie and beyond its borders. He noted that this is a monumental loss for Acadie and all of New Brunswick.

The Pays de la Sagouine, located in Dwayne’s hometown, expressed its condolences to the family and his many fans. They stated, “Paul was an essential figure in the country music scene in Acadie, and his departure will leave a substantial void.”
