Travis Hunter Knee Injury Jacksonville Jaguars

Jacksonville, FL – The Jacksonville Jaguars have placed rookie wide receiver and cornerback Travis Hunter on injured reserve following a knee injury sustained during practice on Thursday, coach Liam Coen announced on Friday.

This injury will keep Hunter out for at least the next four games, meaning he will not return until at least Week 13. The team had been planning to expand his role in the offense after the bye week, as he was coming off his best performance to date.

Before the injury, Hunter caught eight passes for 104 yards and his first NFL touchdown in a game against the Buffalo Bills, which ended in a 35-7 loss. The 2024 Heisman Trophy winner has recorded 28 catches for 298 yards and one touchdown over seven games this season.

Defensively, Hunter has contributed 15 tackles and three passes defended, demonstrating his versatility as a two-way player. Coach Coen expressed sympathy for Hunter, stating, “You feel bad for the guy, the team… Minor setback for major comeback.”

Hunter was selected as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft after a standout college career. Originally committed to Florida State, he later transferred to Jackson State to play under legendary cornerback Deion Sanders. Following a season there, he moved to Colorado, where he excelled as both a cornerback and a wide receiver, winning the Heisman Trophy.

The Jaguars, who hold a 4-3 record under Coen’s leadership this season, will play again in Week 9, but Hunter’s absence will be felt as he is an integral part of the team’s strategy.
