Travis Kelce Sets NFL Playoff Record as Chiefs Advance
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Travis Kelce cemented his legacy as one of the NFL‘s greatest postseason performers Saturday, setting a new record for 100-yard playoff games in the Kansas City Chiefs‘ Divisional Round victory over the Houston Texans.
The 35-year-old tight end surpassed Hall of Famer Jerry Rice with his ninth 100-yard playoff performance, hauling in an 18-yard pass from Patrick Mahomes in the third quarter to reach the milestone. Kelce finished the game with 104 receiving yards, extending his streak of playoff games with at least 70 receiving yards to 14.
“It’s been such a pleasure,” Kelce said of playing with Mahomes. “He’s every bit of a superstar off the field as he is on the field. I consider him family.”
Kelce’s record-breaking performance came amid questions about his longevity. The 10-time Pro Bowler had a relatively quiet regular season by his standards, recording 97 receptions for 823 yards and three touchdowns — his lowest totals since his rookie year in 2013.
But in typical Kelce fashion, he rose to the occasion in the playoffs. His 49-yard reception in the first half marked the longest of his postseason career, showcasing his ability to deliver in crucial moments.
Mahomes, who has led the Chiefs to four Super Bowl appearances and three championships since becoming the starter in 2018, praised his longtime teammate. “Travis steps up when it matters most,” Mahomes said. “That’s what makes him special.”
Kelce’s career numbers place him among the NFL’s all-time greats. With 1,004 career receptions, 12,151 receiving yards, and 77 touchdowns, he ranks third among tight ends in receptions and receiving yards, and fifth in touchdowns.
The Chiefs’ victory sets up another potential deep playoff run as they continue their quest for a third consecutive Super Bowl title. Kansas City will host the AFC Championship Game next Sunday, with Kelce and Mahomes looking to add to their already impressive postseason resumes.
