Tre Donaldson Michigan Basketball Highlight

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Tre Donaldson, a point guard for the University of Michigan‘s basketball team, has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal after just one season with the Wolverines. The news comes one day after Michigan announced the addition of former North Carolina point guard Elliot Cadeau.

Donaldson had a notable season, starting all 37 games and averaging 11.3 points, 4.1 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game, with shooting percentages of 43.3% from the field and 37.5% from three-point range. His performance marked career-highs in points, rebounds, and assists during the 2024-25 campaign.

One of his standout moments came during Michigan’s 94-75 victory over the No. 22 ranked UCLA Bruins on January 7, where he recorded a season-high 20 points, six rebounds, and seven assists, including six three-pointers on ten attempts. Yet, despite his strong regular season, Donaldson struggled in the NCAA Tournament, scoring only five points on 2-9 shooting in the Wolverines’ Sweet Sixteen loss to Auburn.

After the game, Donaldson remained confident, stating, “My teammates are trusting me and my ability to make shots. My confidence is great. This is the best basketball I’ve played in my life.” He expressed a desire to seize opportunities when they arise, emphasizing the importance of making big plays.

Before his transfer to Michigan, Donaldson played two seasons at Auburn, where he averaged 19.6 minutes per game in his sophomore year. He began his basketball journey at Florida State University High School in Tallahassee, where he was rated as a four-star prospect and ranked as the No. 127 overall player in the 2022 recruiting cycle.

Michigan’s head coach, Juwan Howard, has a history of reshaping his roster through the transfer portal, having added six players the previous offseason after losing five. As Donaldson seeks new opportunities, he hopes to maximize his final year of eligibility.

As the Wolverines navigate this change, fans will remember Donaldson’s critical game-winning layup against Maryland during the Big Ten Tournament, a defining moment of his brief but impactful time at Michigan.
