Trevor Lawrence Reflects on Injury-Plagued 2024 Season
Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence faced a challenging 2024 season, missing nearly half the games due to multiple injuries, including a concussion sustained in Week 13 against the Houston Texans. The hit, delivered by Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair, marked the second concussion Lawrence has suffered in as many seasons.
Speaking to reporters this week, Lawrence addressed concerns about his injury history, particularly the concussions. “It doesn’t necessarily worry me,” Lawrence said, according to a team transcript. “I think it’s something that can be scary, seeing it after the fact and not really knowing what was going on. In that moment, I didn’t know that was happening, I was out, so I didn’t know. It’s just weird seeing it after the fact, but I don’t know if ‘worried’ is the right word moving forward.”
Lawrence emphasized his desire to avoid future head injuries while acknowledging the risks associated with repeated concussions. “I don’t want to have more of them, you want to limit them, but I think right now it’s not something I’m overly concerned about,” he said. “I just want to be able to protect myself and obviously, don’t want to continue that trend because that can definitely affect how long you play if you keep getting those.”
Despite the setbacks, Lawrence remains optimistic about his ability to stay healthy and contribute to the team. He ended the 2024 season with 10 starts, completing 60.6% of his passes for 2,045 yards, 11 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He also rushed for 119 yards and three touchdowns.
Lawrence’s injury history prior to 2024 was relatively clean, with only one missed game in his career. However, this season saw him on pace to surpass his career-high sack percentage before his injuries sidelined him. “I just want to stay healthy,” Lawrence said. “What bothers me is not being out there. I’m not really worried about any labels or tags or anything, I just want to be out there because I feel like—I know I can impact the game and help us win games when I’m out there.”
As Lawrence looks ahead to the 2025 season, his focus remains on recovery and preparation. “It’s tough even just being in here and getting treatment, guys going out to practice and you’re just sitting there,” he said. “It’s weird. It’s not fun just sitting on the sideline and not being able to have an impact. I want to be healthy, I want to be out there.”
