Trinity Rodman Returns to USWNT Roster for Brazil Matches

CHICAGO (March 25, 2025) – Trinity Rodman is set to make her return to the U.S. Women’s National Team for the first time since the 2024 Olympic Games, as head coach Emma Hayes announced a 24-player roster for two upcoming friendly matches against Brazil.
The matches will take place at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, on April 5, and at PayPal Park in San Jose, California, on April 8. These contests serve as a rematch of the Olympic gold medal game, which the U.S. won 1-0 last summer.
Rodman, who scored three goals and added an assist during the Olympics, is recovering from a back injury that sidelined her for several recent training camps. She recently returned to play in a league match with the Washington Spirit, entering the game in the second half against the Orlando Pride.
“We’re delighted she’s back with us,” Hayes said. “I have not had the chance to work with the Triple Espresso—Rose [Lavelle] and Naomi [Girma]—together since the Olympics, so it’s a long time, but to get one of them back is really exciting.”
Despite Rodman’s return, the roster still lacks several star players, including Sofia Huerta and Mallory Swanson, who has been absent due to an injury, along with Jenna Nighswonger and Lynn Biyendolo who will not participate in the camp.
Hayes emphasized the need for caution with Rodman’s reintegration into the squad, specifically due to her past injury. “I think she’s on the right road, but it can be quite easy to trigger it,” Hayes noted. “I have to try and find the sweet spot in camp to reintegrate her back into the team while managing her for the long season ahead.”
The roster includes 19 players who participated in the SheBelieves Cup, along with newcomers like center-back Alana Cook and uncapped players Phallon Tullis-Joyce and Avery Patterson. Hayes sees this camp as an opportunity to evaluate talent ahead of the 2027 World Cup.
“All of the players know they have to earn every roster spot and every minute they get as a finisher off the bench,” Hayes said. “Working with players striving for consistency in elite performance is an exciting process that continues with these matches.”
The U.S. faces Brazil on April 5 and April 8, providing an excellent platform for younger players alongside seasoned Olympians. With a mix of experienced players and newcomers, Hayes aims to build a competitive squad that can sustain success in future tournaments.
“This roster has Olympians returning, less experienced players continuing to prove themselves, and some uncapped players,” Hayes added. “The mix of players along with two games against a dynamic Brazil team means this event will be exciting.”
The U.S. squad includes several regional connections, with multiple players hailing from California, including Rodman and Alyssa Thompson. The coaching staff will also consider players from the U-23 camp happening concurrently to broaden their talent pool.
“It’s a performance-related business,” Hayes stated, emphasizing that players need to take their chances to impact future selections. The upcoming matches promise to be a significant opportunity for the team and players alike as they prepare for the competitive journey ahead.
