Bloomington, Indiana — In a significant boost for the Indiana Hoosiers basketball program, Troy transfer Tayton Conerway has officially committed to the team for the upcoming season. The announcement comes after a successful visit to Indiana, where he chose the Hoosiers over Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, and others.

The 6-foot-3 guard enjoyed a standout career at Troy, highlighted by being named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year for the 2024-25 season. He averaged 14.2 points, 4.8 assists, and 4.6 rebounds per game, showcasing his all-around skills while leading the conference in both assists and steals with 2.9 steals per game.

Conerway’s journey to Indiana has seen him excel at the junior college level before making his mark in Division I basketball. Originally from Burleson, Texas, he began his college career at Grayson College, then moved to Ranger College. He transferred to Troy where he quickly became an essential contributor in the 2023-24 season, earning the title of Sun Belt Sixth Man of the Year.

During his time with the Trojans, Conerway displayed remarkable efficiency, shooting 47.1% from the field and contributing to a team that won the Sun Belt regular season championship and claimed the conference tournament title. His performance not only helped lead Troy to a 23-11 record but also secured their first NCAA tournament appearance since 2017.

In an interview, Conerway expressed excitement about joining the Hoosiers, stating, “I’m looking forward to contributing my part to Indiana basketball and surrounding myself with a talented group of players. I believe we can achieve great things together.”

His addition marks the sixth transfer acquisition for Indiana head coach Darian DeVries, who is in the process of rebuilding the roster. Conerway will join five other new faces: Tucker DeVries, Conor Enright, Reed Bailey, Lamar Wilkerson, and Jasai Miles, strengthening Indiana’s lineup.

With Conerway’s wealth of experience and proven talents as both a scorer and playmaker, he is expected to play a pivotal role within the Hoosier’s backcourt strategy. In his previous season, he recorded a career-high 32 points in a loss to Arkansas State, shooting impressively from the free-throw line and exhibiting his capacity to perform under pressure.

As he prepares for his upcoming senior season, NCAA regulations provide Conerway with at least another year of eligibility, allowing him the opportunity to further enhance his skills and impact at the collegiate level.

Conerway’s transition to Indiana come during a time of change as the Hoosiers look to bounce back from a disappointing season and reclaim their status as a competitive force in college basketball.

The Indiana basketball program now turns its eyes to the future, looking forward to integrating Conerway into their plans as they prepare for the 2025-26 season.
