Truist Championship Wissahickon Course Golf

Flourtown, Pennsylvania – Rory McIlroy is preparing to defend his title this week at the Truist Championship, which has been relocated to the Wissahickon Course at the Philadelphia Cricket Club. The tournament, part of the PGA Tour, traditionally takes place at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, but the site is occupied with preparations for next week’s PGA Championship.

The Wissahickon Course, about 15 miles from Citizens Bank Park, provides a unique setting for the 72-player field. ‘This is a special treat for qualifiers and fans alike,’ said a PGA Tour spokesperson. The course is making its debut at the PGA Tour level, although it was previously home to the Kaulig Companies Championship in 2016.

The layout was delayed for five years due to economic issues before undergoing a restoration completed in 2014 by architect Keith Foster. During the senior major in 2016, none of the 78 competitors finished under par, with Bernhard Langer winning at 1-over 281.

The Truist Championship course measures 7,119 yards, making it the second-shortest par 70 for the events this season. Its fairways are covered in bentgrass, while bluegrass and fescue make up the rough, which reaches heights of 2.5 inches. The course features 118 bunkers, adding to the challenge for players, as precise ball striking will be essential.

The hole configuration for the championship differs from the standard play for members, with the first hole set as a 365-yard par 4. The final stretch of the course includes several demanding holes, including a par-5 that is known for its unique hazards with 13 bunkers.

Weather may also play a role this week, with rain expected to soften the course ahead of Thursday’s start. Cooler temperatures and winds are forecast for Friday, but conditions are expected to improve by the weekend.

The winner of the Truist Championship will earn one of the last automatic qualifying spots for the upcoming PGA Championship. As of Monday, only Rickie Fowler and Michael Thorbjornsen have not yet secured their exemptions.
